A little peek into my woodshop

Well, now I have a camera that’s working, and I snapped a few photos.

I built this workbench by laminating 17 2×3’s with glue and 5 threaded rods, and then building some sturdy braced legs.

There’s my favorite plane, an old Stanley No 27 wood base. So smooth and friendly. I sharpen’d the iron with a little smile to be friendly on the wood.

Here’s the woodstove that I found on the street in Brookline, with 4 segments of insulated pipe and all - it cost me $100 and a couple days to install it. It took a couple days because I had to reroof the whole side of the shop because the shingles were so old and brittle. It was good because I framed a 2 foot overhang when I reroofed, so I have a nice sheltered spot for wood storage now.
I love the stove. It’s a French model named Petit Godin… sweet little flame, it’s all I need.

That’s a lathe in the background, an old machinist’s lathe that has been adapted for wood. I can turn a perfect cylinder or taper almost automatically, because the tool-mount auto-feeds. It has foot treadles because it was made before electricity.
